Essential apps to survive in Jakarta

apps I use frequently

It’s been almost a month since I came to Jakarta for a project. My daily routines, my life habits, my paces, are changing.

These apps helped me a lot for my Jakarta‘s survival.

  1. Google map: a web mapping service developed by Google. I don’t know where I go without it. Even the senior taxi drivers, didn’t really know the route to some specific places, or if they knew, we still need the optimized one to get the place on time by taking the best route. Also if we plan to take a public transport, google map sometimes more reliable than asking to a random person we meet.
  2. Grab: technology company offering you affordable transport and courier services, food delivery service and payment solutions (red: got this def from grab official web). Yes I agree with that. I choose grab over gojek, because I can integrate it with ovo, and even when I can’t get my ovo get topped up I can use my Korean debit card to pay for its service.
  3. Ovo: the digital wallet connected to Grab and tokopedia. My workplace now is located nearby plaza Semanggi, which instantly makes it as the only place to go for lunch, shopping, and do other things other than work. All the payment in plaza semanggi, for most merchant, ovo is available with the promising cashback and discount. We can also buy “pulsa” by only entering phone number with ovo cash.
  4. Online retail shop: (Tokopedia, Shopee, lazada, and Blibli). I choose one of them based on what I need, as they offer different benefit for different item. From its site, tokopedia stated that they are the most complete online retail site with a wide selection of trusted online stores. We can literally find anything with the most competitive price. But keep in mind that we should be wise by only buying what we need not what we want 😀
  5. Instagram: a photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook, Inc. These days in Indonesia, IG became the most effective platform to promote any product, share any news any thought any activities, connect with friends, and yeah mostly everything. But why ig become app to survive in Jakarta? Because scrolling its feeds and stories could be refreshing *based on who you follow of course :D.
  6. Reddit: an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. I can get all summarized good and bad news at once from r/Indonesia with joke bonus 😀 . However some ISPs require VPN to open it.
  7. Zomato: food and restaurant finder. We can get almost complete information about the food and restaurant of the desired place. Powered by the community, Zomato provides the good reference for us before we decide to eat or go to a specific restaurant.

We should keep in mind that all of them needs internet :D. Without internet and power you can imagine what happened.
